Our Founder and CEO has built and scaled multiple companies across Scandinavia, Germany, and East Africa. He is now launching a new Portuguese entity to drive growth across Iberia and, later, North Africa. To support this expansion, we are seeking a strong commercial leader—a Business Development Manager—who can work side by side with the Founder and CEO to build customer relationships, develop commercial opportunities, and strengthen our regional market presence.
We are entering a phase of international growth supported by long-term experience, a robust project pipeline, and rising demand for high-quality water treatment solutions.
Role Overview
This is a senior, hands-on commercial role.
You will work directly with customers, partners, and investors, and will build and manage a small front-end team supporting business development in Portugal and Spain—later extending to Morocco and Algeria.
You will operate in an entrepreneurial, fast-growing environment where decisions are made quickly and where your performance directly influences company growth. In the initial phase, the position reports directly to the Founder and CEO.
You must be comfortable working remotely, staying well connected, and managing your responsibilities independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop new business opportunities in Portugal and Spain, and later in Morocco and Algeria.
- Build and manage a small commercial front-end team, with the objective of expanding it as markets grow.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with industrial clients, municipalities, EPC partners, consultants, and technology suppliers.
- Engage with potential investors and financial partners for project and co-investment opportunities.
- Manage the full sales cycle: market research, lead generation, client meetings, proposals, negotiations, and closing.
- Identify strategic partners and establish regional cooperation agreements.
- Track market trends, competitor activities, and emerging opportunities.
- Represent the company at industry fairs, events, and customer meetings.
- Work closely with internal teams covering marketing, engineering, back-office operations, and proposal support.
- Build additional commercial and operational capacity under your supervision as regional activity increases.
- Operate effectively in a satellite work setting, managing tasks independently and communicating proactively.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of experience in the water treatment industry within Portugal, Spain, or related markets.
- Experience from medium-sized or large companies in business development, project sales, service divisions, or equivalent roles.
- Strong understanding of water treatment technologies, customer needs, and EPC or project-based business models.
- Established network in the industrial or municipal water sectors.
- Proven track record in business development, sales, or partnership management.
- Fluent in English and Portuguese; Spanish is a strong advantage.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Independent and proactive mindset, with the ability to manage both your own work and a small team.
- Willingness to travel regularly across the region.
