The roleOur client currently have an opening for a QA Lead, based in their Lisbon office.
This role includes the management of the growing QA team, as well as ownership and continuous improvement of the QA/QC processes, promoting and embedding these across the team.
The right candidate must have an in-depth knowledge of testing principles and techniques and how they apply to the testing phases of an Agile or Waterfall software development lifecycle.
The individual should demonstrate the ability to manage a range of stakeholders from different geographies (business users, analysts, software delivery teams, 3rd party suppliers) as well the enthusiasm to learn functional aspects of applications and the underlying business needs.
The role will require occasional European travel.
Key Responsibilities
Team Management:
- Manage a team of Test Coordinators that execute the Quality Control for both Agile Software Development Factories and Projects
- Provide training and coaching in Quality Assurance and Quality Control as needed to both Test Coordinators and Testers
- Support the team and Project Managers in defining suitable resource allocation for the QA team
- Represent the QA Team within the wider organisation
- Define, agree and maintain the QA Framework
- Establish and manage suitable processes and tooling as required to support QA activities
- Responsible for “closing the cycle” on both Projects and Agile Factories, gathering lessons learned and applying them to the QA process of the Software Development Lifecycle
- Be on top of the market trends on Quality Assurance, Quality Controls, Testing tools and methods
- Sponsor and manage QA enhancement activities, driven by internal or external teams
- Analyse Project Requirements, defining the optimal Test Strategy to be applied
- Validate estimations on the effort required from the QA Team to perform the QC on the Project
- Act as the key point of contact for Project stakeholders
- Provide support to the Test Coordinators as needed in performing QC during Project
- Define and validate the QA and QC criteria needed for the on boarding of an application in the Agile Factory mode
- Assist the Test Coordination in the validation of the Testing Stages deliverables, on the creation of Test Scenarios and Test Cases, and performing the Test Reporting
- Standardise practices, tools and strategies across Factories
- Make a qualitative analysis on the Testing phases of the Iterations
- Ability to combine “soft” influencing, persuasion and consultancy skills with “leadership” qualities that encourage business leaders to positively respond to questions, and requests to meet deadlines.

- Demonstrates a commitment to Quality
- At least five years’ experience of working as a Test Manager / QA Lead in a near-shore/offshore environment with matrix teams and multiple work streams.
- Experience working with distributed teams and building relationships with stakeholders.
- BA/BSc Degree in a relevant subject
- BCS (ISEB)/ISTQB Software Testing Foundation (minimum), Practitioner qualification (preferable) or equivalent.
- Experience of using Test Management applications such as JIRA, Zephyr or HP ALM QC
- Ability to read and comprehend business requirements and high level design deliverables well enough to facilitate building of detailed test cases
- In-depth knowledge of both Waterfall and Agile Software Development Methodologies, and of the QA/QC best practices applied in both Methodologies
- Knowledge and experience of Test Automation solutions
- Knowledge and experience of API and System Integration testing
