Wikimedia is a global movement whose mission is to bring free educational content to the world. Through various projects, chapters, and the support structure of the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, Wikimedia strives to bring about a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge.

Wikimedia Europe conducts digital rights advocacy in the EU supporting healthy online ecosystems regarding data and use of AI, and sustainability in tackling disinformation. As a membership-based organisation it comprises 26 European affiliates of Wikimedia as its founding members; and a small team in its Brussels office. WMEU will look for new sources of funding for community projects promoting reliability of information online and it will support capacities of Wikimedia communities across Europe. Wikimedia Europe will be the employer of the contracted person. The position can be fully remote from any EU member state or based in Brussels, where we offer hybrid workplace options.

 

Wikimedia Deutschland is a non-profit organisation based in Berlin, Germany. WMDE has been a fiscal sponsor of WMEU before its registration and is supporting the recruitment process for a fundraiser position contracted by WMEU in Brussels.

 

Wikimedia Europe is looking for a Fundraiser (m/f/d) to join our efforts on behalf of the Wikimedia movement, permanent or as a contractor, full time.

 

Who are we looking for:

As a fundraiser at Wikimedia Europe, you will be supporting the executive director in building the fundraising strategy and implementing related initiatives. You will be cultivating meaningful partnerships aimed at enlargement and diversification of the donor pool and a diverse network of stakeholders in fundraising to advance free knowledge projects. In addition, you will support the team in ensuring optimal results and accountability.

Your responsibilities:

Conducting a comprehensive assessment of funding needs for the organisation
Providing input and recommendations to financial strategy
Executing implementation of the fundraising plan
Defining action plans for fundraising and executing their implementation 
Drafting proposals in collaboration with the directors and staff of WMEU including those developed in a consortium. Ensuring timely submission of said proposals
Profiling institutional (EU) and private corporate/non-profit donors and programs to identify opportunities 
Soliciting potential donors including donor onboarding and planning, implementing, managing, and coordinating related activities
Identifying newcomers to the donor field and assisting in building new funding programs that fee knowledge activists can benefit from
Organisation of meetings with donors and of fundraising events in Brussels and in other EU countries when relevant

About you:

4 to 6 years of relevant experience
Strong program management skills, as well as storytelling, writing and oral skills 
Good knowledge of donor institutional frameworks and EU funding environment of multilateral projects
Experience with networking, developing, and managing partnerships across a range of stakeholders
Strong proven interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment that requires collaboration and networking 
Willingness to travel in the EU including regularly to Brussels if the position is remote
Excellent command of English
